Teacher Spotlight

At Building Blocks, we take pride in our teaching staff. Our teachers are experienced, insightful, nurturing professionals devoted to providing every child with the best in early childhood education.

We keep our teacher:student ratio exceptionally low, so your child has plenty of one-on-one time and receives the attention they need to thrive!

Here are some of the teachers you’ll meet at Building Blocks:

Rose, Infant Teacher

Rose is currently an Infant Teacher working in our Cubs’ Classroom. She has 17 years experience in Early Childhood Education. Her teaching style is based on Interaction.

“I constantly talk to the infants and sing to them. I feel through singing and talking to the infants they learn.”

Favorite Part of Being a Teacher: Watching the babies grow and develop their gross and fine motor skills. “Every day is exciting because the infants do something new.”

Serena, Toddler Teacher

Serena is a currently a toddler teacher working in our Pandas’ Classroom. She has an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Norwalk Community College and is currently enrolled at the University of Bridgeport where she will be graduating in May 2011. After graduating, she is pursuing a Masters in Education.

Throughout the day, she enjoys creating art projects with the children and reading to them. “I love reading a really good book that sustains their attention.”

Favorite Part of Being A Teacher: Watching the children having fun while they grow and learn. “For as long as I could remember, I wanted to become a teacher. I always pretended I was a teacher as a child and pretty much would teach anyone that was around to listen.”

Shamell, Toddler Teacher

Shamell is currently a toddler teacher working in our Chipmunks’ Classroom. She has seven years experience in Early Childhood Education and pursuing a degree in Education.

“I like the light bulb moments. I love seeing a child’s excitement when their counting or recognizing colors or shapes.”

Favorite Part of Being a Teacher: Interacting with the children and learning from their observations. “Children allow us to explore things we tend to forget as we grow into adults. I love how they appreciate the smallest things and start each day with a smile.”

Ashley, Preschool Teacher

Ashley is currently a Preschool Teacher in our Lions’ Classroom. She received an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Monroe Community College.

Ashley enjoys receiving feedback from parents about what their children learned in school and how they are sharing it with others.

Favorite Part of Being A Teacher: Watching the children grow throughout the year. “As a child, I always dreamed about being a teacher. I feel very lucky to know that I am making a difference in the lives of so many children.”
