Building Blocks Infant Classrooms

Infant Classroom Philosophy

Welcome to the world, new friend! Building Blocks infant classrooms foster an environment of safety, comfort, and security in a private early childhood setting. In classrooms filled with nurturing teachers, sensory discoveries, and new friends, we help babies thrive through age-appropriate and individualized interactions.

We partner with you to develop an approach that is consistent with your family’s routine to ease the transition from home to school. During waking hours, infants are offered both individual and group lessons to stimulate senses and brain development and build core skills essential to self-discovery and empathy.

Our classroom environments allow for a flexible balance or experiences that enhance:

  • Language and Literacy

Understanding language begins at birth. When a new baby responds to the sound of a pleasant voice, he/she is displaying an early understanding of communication. Our infant teachers understand that even when babies don’t yet recognize specific words, tone of voice and physical cues are already beginning to frame their understanding of communication.

  • Physical Development & Health

Gross motor development may not be obvious during these early days of life, but many changes are actively taking place! After a few months, children gain greater control over their head, arms, and legs. Teachers in our classrooms support infants as they begin to hold and lift their heads while laying on their back or stomach and use their arms and legs to prop themselves up to sitting positions. Our infant rooms come equipped with engaging sensory toys placed at eye level to encourage this gross motor development, as well as mirrors that help to develop a sense of self.

  • Creative Arts (Music & Movement)

Infants are introduced to the wonderful work of music and the creative arts in our classrooms in many ways, including a soft song sung quietly as they fall asleep. By providing many opportunities to engage with music, create with art materials, listen to stories, play with toys and move around their environment, we begin the process of encouraging and supporting a child’s natural creative side at a very early age.

  • Social and Emotional

Infants actively work to establish relationships with their parents and caregivers - the most important people in their lives. They seek contact and communicate their needs through basic forms of communication, such as crying and smiling. Our educators work with them to develop their communication skills through back-and-forth interaction. By encouraging them to explore their environment, our teachers help infants begin to develop an understanding of themselves in the context of their family, community, and culture. And don’t forget the power of friendship; by interacting with other babies in our classrooms, our infants get a head start on building those ever-important social skills!

  • Cognition

For infants, their approach to learning begins with their interest in the world around them and their desire to make an impact! Secure relationships with a nurturing caregiver, exploration of a welcoming, safe, stimulating space, and active learning are critical to supporting a child’s development.

Infant Classroom Curriculum

Our educators provide warm, nurturing environments and focus on supporting infants as they reach toward developmental milestones in the earliest years of life. Loving attention helps new brain cells connect in ways that help infants feel secure and confident, make sense of new ideas and information, and grow healthy bodies. Through sensory exploration and a focus on social and emotional development – all based in the power of play – our Building Blocks infant classrooms are supporting babies during some of the most instrumental months of their young lives.
